I don’t know about you, but I’m frustrated with the state of the world these days. We seem paralyzed and helpless when confronted with challenges like the war in Ukraine or climate change. We are too comfortable substituting talk for action or assuming someone else is solving these problems.
The right side of the image shows the impact of the Russian onslaught on Ukraine’s power grid. Yet somehow they manage to get things repaired within days knowing full well they may face more bombs the following day. The image on the left comes from the public portal from Erindale GO’s 300kW DC solar PV system. This portal shows the system has an inverter fault and has been down since April 2021. No bombs are raining down in Toronto and yet this hasn’t been fixed in 18 months!
If you click on the Solera Canada link it takes you to a nonfunctional website. I have no idea who at GO you would contact to point this out but I assume somebody out there in my extended network probably knows somebody connected with this project. Could you ask them what the problem is and why it hasn’t been addressed yet? From the site description, payment rate and portal history, I would estimate the losses exceed $500,000. In the last three years I’ve seen way too many of these situations where people celebrate building these projects but don’t bother to then make sure they keep working properly. We are going to need to do better than this if we are going to address climate change.
Here is another suggestion. If we aren’t going to take care of these systems we are building why don’t we ship them to Ukraine instead? I suspect they can make better use of them than we appear to be.
